This piece represents the choices available to Black Americans in the wake of the 3/5ths compromise. The selection pops back and forth between "FIELD," and "HOUSE," 5 times before settling on the viewer's final selection, which may be interpreted as either both "FIELD" and "HOUSE" or neither choice at all. The process is looped to represent the constant struggle to avoid the "Uncle Tom" moniker, to "keep it real," to exceed the "house nigga." The house is constructed in a similar shape to the cotton plants that mirror them, and even the type of paper was selected for specific reason and reference.
