Part of the Benin mask series, this work shows a man returning homes to his roots. At the gate, he recites a poem for his ancestors:
“A breath of wind hits me, mother. As I stand awaiting your orders.
It’s cold and weary and I have come home at last. Home. Where there is mother and father. Home at last.”
At the cusp depicts varying stages where a character must make a decision that sends them on the journey of no return. In the course of our human lives, there comes a time when we make decisions we cannot go back from. Leaving our homes to go elsewhere to make a living. Cutting contact from close relationships or jobs because they no longer serve us and in some cases, in the event of death.
