Тhis is a portrait of a Dogon woman. The tribe lives in Central Mali and is famous for their spectacular rituals revolving around cosmology. They have extraordinary knowledge of astronomy and their own calendrical system consisting of four calendars.
Her face is drawn in pastels and mixed media, the background is oil color mixed with sand. The disc around the neck is a collage of beads made of various broken necklaces.

Humanity is made of infinite faces that are the reflection of infinite aspects. A face can represent an emotion or a temporary feeling, and beyond that it represents consciousness that is infinite but also unique and individual.
With faces, Ilaria Berenice expresses the infinite aspects that are within her and are reflected in the diversified humanity. She says that luckily, we are not all the same, everyone is unique in their individuality, even if people try to fit into everything that is defined as normal in order to feel accepted at social level.
She wants to enhance the diversity reflected in the faces that she has been creating and portraying for years in detail or in abstraction, and in which the viewer can also see their reflection.
