There is a small sad story behind this shot. This was a Spiny Seahorse (Hippocampus histrix) we spotted at Pulau Hantu, Singapore. We first spotted this tiny one on a sponge coral in July 2021, those were exciting days. It was not a fully grown adult yet. I believe once they are fully grown, they will turn into a more bright yellow colour. We started tracking the growth every time we went back to the same dive site. we had some good days where he will be in a good mood to pose for my camera.
But in September, tragedy happened. On a Sunday when we went back to the same spot, we realised the sponge coral was destroyed. Probably by some ignorant boat drooping it’s anchor. They are usually very territorial animals and would have floated away once it’s home was destroyed. Hopefully he found a safer place. Hang in there little fella.
