This illustration is dear to my heart. What seems like a lifetime ago when I young and far more gregarious and first started working in comics, I was a bit of a bull in a China shop, as the saying goes. Another up and comer at the time was Josh Blaylock, who was just as ambitious and bull headed. Fast forward many years later and both he and I are still standing and thriving, to the dismay of anyone who knew us back then. Josh now runs Devil's Due Entertainment and I have somehow become a world renowned illustrator.

It dawned on Josh that in all this time the two of us had never worked on anything together. A bizarre oversight. So I did a cover for his book Mercy Sparx, issue 13. Seemed fitting, as 13 is a "unlucky number" to some.

And this is that cover in all it's glory, uncut, free of all distracting logos, symbols, and necessary clutter!

All the inking was done the old fashioned way, by hand with a brush. Which gives it that odd, old school look. It also gave me fits, trying to get all those chain links done right . I'll bet that was 3 hours of work just on those chains. Ah well, it turned out pretty good, and it brought a smile to Josh's face. Coloring done in photoshop.
