
The series originated from research into abandoned buildings and why people are attracted to them. 
Within these spaces it was the staircases that captured my eye. They bring an order to the uncertainty whilst presenting further levels of wonderment as to what lies above or below. The staircase is only ever used for it's practical purpose for a slim portion of its existence, the rest of the time is a regimented sculpture standing boldly within its surroundings. A symbol of temporality and significance.
Painted using abstract marks and areas of graphic detail. I begin by painting the staircase itself, not knowing what the final image will be, allowing the subconscious to dictate the process. The series is evocative, nostalgic yet edgy and raw. 

The gratified walls displaying evidence of life, evidence of people with ideas, opinions and creativity. The walls are alive.
