Alps Stage 5 2017 - Geraint Thomas - In the leader's jersey and riding an inspired race, Geraint defended against all attackers in today's stage. The overal GC was separated by a small margin, so it came down to the final climb with Geraint marking every attack and riding a to fine 3rd place on the stage that won him the overall jersey. This is the final 16 minutes of the stage using his heart rate data line. The wattage in these last 16minutes and the number of attacks that he responds to is impressive. Geraint Thomas, otherwise known as "G", is a Welsh professional racing cyclist who currently rides for UCI WorldTeam Ineos Grenadiers, Wales and Great Britain. He is one of the few riders in the modern era to achieve significant elite success as both a track and road rider, with notable victories in the velodrome, in one-day racing and in stage racing. On the track, he has won three World Championships (2007, 2008, and 2012), and two Olympic gold medals (2008 and 2012), while on the road he won the 2018 Tour de France, and the 2022 Tour de Suisse, becoming the first Welshman to win either.
