Here, the eye referred to is represented by the Hebrew letter ע Ayin. In fact, in ancient Hebrew, the letter Ayin was written as the shape of an eye (see illustration at right).

In Hebrew, the word עין Ayin means “eye, to see.” Ayin also represents the light itself; not physical light, but the supernal light from which everything is created.
