One of the things that I think makes Tokyo unique to all cities in the world is the respect afforded to people who are just too exhausted or too drunk to get home. In most cities just passing out anywhere on the street is a great way to get robbed, beaten or murdered. In Tokyo none of that is a concern, the worst thing to fear is a kink in your neck and maybe the embarrassment of having someone wake you up in the morning - though even that is usually out of concern that you aren't late for some place else you are supposed to be.
