p1xelfool’s work creates tension by flattening moving 3D geometry into low resolution 2D graphics, and by contrasting high-fidelity physics simulations with extremely low-resolution graphics. The form and color create a strong reference to scientific diagrams, and more specifically to early representations of data within digital media. In “k.f0,” two opposing trails of particles rotate around the outside of a void marked with two coordinate axes that flicker in and out. Each particle, drawn as a small cluster of enlarged pixels, dissipates and dissolves as a constant stream of new material flows into the environment. The “k.f0” software is one of a pair of p1xelfool’s first generative, live-code releases. We’re thrilled to feature this new direction on Feral File.
