When I first started a business, I didn't know how much time it would take. When I first had a kid, I didn't know how hard it'd be. Doing them at the same time? Ill advised. I made this piece to work through my time deprivation. No matter how quickly I worked, it was as if the hours just disappeared like butterflies in the wind. Something as tiny as a spilled nail polish container could rob me of the only 10 minutes I had to finish a 20 minute task. People were popping out of the woodwork (or the rolodex) demanding more. Always more. Had I worked 24 hours a day at maximum efficiency, I would have not caught up on my back-log of tasks for another three and a half months.
People always wanted to call it different things (PPD, mommy brain, business growth phases, etc.) but overextending oneself is sometimes just that; a simple overextension.
Originally made as a painted collage with tempera on illustration board.
