This wave has multiple personalities, it has so much texture and colour from the deep ocean to shallow reef. On the lower tide, this thing warps and gets super angry but gives this molten glass vibe which is why I have named this piece tūhua, which means obsidian in my language.

Tūhua (obsidian) is an important tool used by my people as a cutting tool. It is super sharp, shiny and beautiful, just like this wave.

I was lucky enough to find this wave by complete accident while out on a boat fishing and diving. A small group of offshore islands off the east coast of the north island of New Zealand. It's so difficult to get these islands on any given day due to its position and distance at sea. You can't afford to get it wrong out here.

I have managed to get to this spot on 4 occasions, and each time, the wave is completely different. It is one of my fav places on earth, and I hope it is for you too.
