A classic Buick Super Eight Dynaflow named Lucy sits in front of the Historic Blue Swallow Motel under pink sunrise skies.

Bluebird Mornings with Lucy is the first image I am releasing from my seven days on the road traveling along the Historic Route 66. The Blue Swallow Motel was our favorite overnight stay and definitely represents the best of quintessential Americana. The Motel owner was so excited to see me shooting with a Busch Pressman land camera he met me at the office and turned the Neon sign ON for me to make my images. I have not yet processed the film sheets from this shoot, but I decided to release this image and offer it to collectors as an open edition.

As I slowly sort through the more than 1300 image captures created with multiple cameras and digital devices, I selected this piece to represent the entire body of work as a “bookmark” for the Abandoned Nation collection.
