"This is a scan from a 2022 roll of Delta 400 35mm film. This is a series based on places that I see on a recurring basis during the pandemic lockdowns, as they are nearby to where I live. This image was taken in January, at the Saint-Gabriel Locks on the Lachine Canal, looking onto Montréal's historic Redpath sugar refinery that was turned into residential lofts. In the background, the Nordelec, a former Northern Electric Company factory, is today also a residential lofts building. This is a picture on a snowy day, taken with a vintage 25mm Carl Zeiss lens. My interest in photography goes back to childhood. In the 90s, I spent a lot of time in the darkroom at McGill University, printing from 35 mm film. I continue to shoot on 35 mm film, but I have increasingly used various digital cameras as well. I like digital photography, but using a roll of film is a different type of contemplation with its own beauty and constraints.
