Lazlo Lissitsky works are created by a program meant to emulate the style of Lazlo Maholy-Nagy and El Lissitzky as one composite character that also makes Swiss Modern style graphic design.

Much of my experience with these modernist designs began with book covers, album covers, posters and pamphlets and manuals - and so as a tribute and sardonic joke, the titles are fictional works that Lazlo was hired to make the art for, circa 1912-1999. Generally the palettes help determine when the estimated design would have originated. Each time the program is updated there are a few new possibilities - but the goal is to make the program such that at any time it can generate by a very rare chance any design from any stage of the development of the program. Essentially, it only gets more complex and only rarely actually has designs that are no longer possible. Only up - so to speak. By that same token, some of the simplest designs actually become more striking in the generation process because they’ve become more and more rarely occurring.

To have simplicity be a moment of wonder is what gives the simple designs their weight, at least for Lazlo.

This project was released in 7 waves, and pronounced complete at 383 works.
