"Nightmarchers" By Oripoto

Nightmarchers are the spirits of dead Hawaiian warriors, according to legends and even locals' testimonies, they can be seen at times marching through mountains and jungles. Certain versions describe them as carrying torches, and other versions include the warriors being lit on fire themselves, this is the one I identify with.

When Nightmarchers march past by you, they say, you have to remain as still as a rock, for if they see that you are seeing them, they'll make you a Nightmarcher themselves, and you will be trapped for all eternity existing as one of them.

There are many shared stories between the tribes and people of the world that have always fascinated me, with slight differences of course, the concept of eternity seems to be a common fright amongst all humans. This, more than anything was my most basic fear when I would try to understand the concept of life after death; to be alive again, forever, in a setting where you can't escape from.

I'm an L.A. illustrator, comic book artist, and sometimes fashion designer.

As a retro gamer, I also love pixelart and have been experimenting with it since the beginning of the pandemic. My pixelart style tends to incline towards 16 bit fighting games and their ending graphics. I have been having a lot of fun lately with this and hope to bring more weirdness into this style as days go by.
