Using a yearlong record of air and sea data provided by the Turkish State Meteorological Service, Bosphorus is a data sculpture that highlights the symbiotic interplay of technology, art, and the environment. The piece transforms kinetic radio frequencies into architectural and audiovisual experiences, investigating the dynamic and dialogic connections between nature and human nature. It suggests that we don’t realize the constant presentness of nature around us unless we are presented with a challenge that changes our perception of it. In this groundbreaking work, our modes of representation and inquiry become a part of our natural world, reflecting and augmenting our perception of reality. Parameters ranging from wind and gust speed, air and water temperature, precipitation and air pressure are all utilized to drive the artwork.
