The Fujin Raijin is a painting that depicts the activities of the wind god ”Fujin”, who blows wind and rain out of a bag of wind, and the thunder god"Raijin", who beats a drum to produce thunder and lightning.
It is famous for its folding screen paintings by 俵屋宗達 ”Sotatsu Tawaraya〟, a painter of the early Edo period. Even if you don't know the name of Sotatsu, this painting is often the first thing people think of when they think of the wind god and thunder god. There are many imitations and reproductions made by many artists, including the painters of the Rimpa school.
I created this as a pair of illustrations based on the motif of the illustration on the folding screen.
