Hiroshige Utagawa was one of the most famous Japanese Ukiyo-e artists. He was born in 1797 and died in 1858. He is best known for his beautiful landscape series, “53 Stations of the Tokaido”. Tokaido is the main road from Tokyo to Kyoto. The popular Ukiyo-e series, “36 Views of Mt. Fuji”, painted by Hokusai Katsushika, gave strong influence on Hiroshige's works. Odawara is the 10th station of Tokaido. Odawara was established between the mountains of Hakone and Sagami Bay. The Sakawa River is also located near Odawara.
