Also known as the Venice of Africa, Ganvié is one of the largest lake towns in the West African region. It is a really special floating village not so far from Cotonou on Lake Nokoué.

The village was created in the sixteenth or seventeenth centuries by the Tofinu people who took refuge to the lake to avoid the Fon warriors from the Kingdom of Dahomey. Its people are often referred to as watermen.
