Acrylics on Canvas 2000
The original concept was sketched in biro whilst at work inspired from a one-sided love interest. Everything the watcher desires is represented by the balloon that is out of reach. The piece is painted in acrylics and the style building on an earlier work called ‘Contracts Disease‘ painted four years previous
My plastic world artwork began in 1996 with a piece called contracts disease. The style I developed was inspired from several art movements including cubism, surrealism, pop art and symbolism in no particular order. Advertising imagery is also something which I also found striking, billboard ads of big brands - the semiotics and power of image over us ordinary folk. My images create a sense of a plastic coloured world of geometry, straight lines and curves - but not too perfect. In compositions I am influenced by movie storyboards, where the camera's position and character eyelines can involve the viewer more within a scene - a moment in time.
