This is one of those photos you could never plan for. Me and the person I was seeing were out shooting photographs on some abandoned freight cars. I spent a good 30 minutes on top of the train before I saw the scene unfolding from where we had parked the car. I saw, an unplanned, unprovoked, unadulterated moment of humanity. The woman I was seeing had drifted away into some kind of trance, I could only guess what she was thinking. I think everyone can see themselves in this subject, each persons perception of the image is their own, the struggle the woman is facing becomes their own struggle. Anyway, 2 years after I took this I decided to list it.
A series created based on my experience hiding my mental illness and drug addiction, the balloons represent the facade I carry with me everywhere I go. Making this series has been an awakening for me that being my true self as an artist is the only way to truly be successful in this space, and that the facade will just bring me down. This series inspired me to be me, even if that’s not always a smiley face
