It was 2 am, I had walked around 12 miles from the north side to the south loop in the cold Chicago weather. I received a text from a friend long ago, telling me he was proud of me. It had been a long time since someone had said that to me, I stopped walking home and turned around. I spent another few hours shooting, and somehow captured this moment.
A series created based on my experience hiding my mental illness and drug addiction, the balloons represent the facade I carry with me everywhere I go. Making this series has been an awakening for me that being my true self as an artist is the only way to truly be successful in this space, and that the facade will just bring me down. This series inspired me to be me, even if that’s not always a smiley face
