In the world of computers & the Internet, we all have, at least once, come across a glitch and a computer virus. I am fascinated by both. I study glitches and I use them to make my art. Malwarez are, like it or not, part of computer history. Their evolution has been wild and huge. From simple programs to challenge other programmers and prank early computer network users, they eventually became powerful weapons to cause damages, ransoms, wars. Considered a primitive generation of smart softwarez, before they became dangerous and silent, they were manifesting their presence through edgy graphic artworks. Part of my series V1R0L0GY, this work is a celebration of computer failures, computer culture, internet history, and the poetic of chaos.

About the virus: Made in 1988 in Indonesia, Denzuko is a boot sector virus. The aim of the virus was that of seeking for and destroying the Brain virus. It is one of the first Nematodes (virus or worm that destroys another virus or worm).

Infected disks are used to introduce Denzuko to a system. When the infected disk is booted only then the virus loads itself into memory. While the virus is in memory, it will infect every disk that is accessed. Denzuko will infect also non-bootable data disks, and the viruses contained on those disks will be able to infect if an attempt is made to boot from them.

Attempting to reboot the computer with CTRL-ALT-DEL, the words "DEN ZUKO" will be displayed on the screen with a stylized "O", similar to the AT&T logo. The virus will stay in memory as the computer reboots.

It removes the Brain virus and changes the volume label from "(c) Brain" to "Y.C.1.E.R.P".
