This is a photo that almost didn’t happen. Or one that I’d have to wait another year to take. Like I mentioned in ‘Berlin VII’, the light is constantly changing. And it changes faster than we actually notice.

I had spent the whole day shooting in an area that I don’t usually go. I wanted to explore, see new things. On the way back, this shot was part of the last group of photos. I ended up not checking the results, but had a feeling that I had to go back another day. And I did return 2 days later. To my surprise, and as a reference, the light wouldn’t even reach the top of the head of that person anymore. So I hoped for the best: the captures from 2 days before needed to be good. One photo. I only needed one photo of that group.

Fortunately (or not), I had three captures that I could select from. And, to be very honest with you, selecting is probably the moment that I enjoy the least. There’s some scary feeling of leaving a photograph that people would maybe resonate more with, out. What if it was the other one? In these cases, I reach out to people that I know can give me very open and honest feedback. It’s important to have that, in my opinion. And the answer was ridiculously fast.

I was happy and relieved: this was my favourite one as well.
