The Goddess is a virtual incarnation of the original Goddess of Democracy created by student demonstrators at the Tiananmen Square, Beijing in 1989. The original Goddess was destroyed on the same evening the nation-wide democratic movement was crushed. The artist intends to keep the memory of the movement alive in virtual space.
‘Seeking the Periphery’ (StP) is a Canadian Contemporary Art Gallery bridging the digital and analogue divide. StP acknowledges that all cultural artefacts are representations, regardless of origin or material property. Artists always ‘represent’.
The energy contained in a work of representation (art) has material agency. Everything contained in the Gallery is a form energy and materiality, including NFTs, ephemera and time-based work.
