Berenice painted Transavatar before she watched the Avatar movie. After seeing the movie, in which beings deeply related to nature were blue, her connection with this painting became even stronger. The face is androgynous, partly male and partly female, and the gender is non-defianable, which is why she called the painting “Transavatar”. It’s painted with acrylic and a collage of various materials.

Humanity is made of infinite faces that are the reflection of infinite aspects. A face can represent an emotion or a temporary feeling, and beyond that it represents consciousness that is infinite but also unique and individual.
With faces, Ilaria Berenice expresses the infinite aspects that are within her and are reflected in the diversified humanity. She says that luckily, we are not all the same, everyone is unique in their individuality, even if people try to fit into everything that is defined as normal in order to feel accepted at social level.
She wants to enhance the diversity reflected in the faces that she has been creating and portraying for years in detail or in abstraction, and in which the viewer can also see their reflection.
