Representing neurodiversity
An incredible masterpiece mural by famous artist Juan Velázquez who is a member of the Army Reserve. This mural depicts the diversity of Fort Worth ISD students who are lifting hands with butterflies. Not only are the Hands ethnically diverse as is the student population, but also one of the hands is missing a couple of fingers to remind students throughout Fort Worth who are missing one or more fingers or even their hand or arm that they don’t need to hide who they are or what makes them unique. The butterflies are colored in the colors that represent disability awareness ribbons. In the same way that October celebrates breast cancer awareness by having pink ribbons, every disability and obstacle children face has a ribbon or special color or design for it.
