What is the name of the epoch you will die in?

About the Chthulucene:

“You watch hours of dark ocean through the vessel's frontal camera. The spotlight drifts through the marine snow, illuminating bits of decomposed protein floating down like weather. The scientists on board pass the time chatting. You witness them trading jokes as they suction a mysterious living pink orb into their lab via a robotic probe.

Your death in the Chthulucene may look something like this.”

“Chthulucene” refers to Donna Haraway’s 2015 essay “Anthropocene, Capitalocene, Plantationocene, Chthulucene: Making Kin”. Environmental Humanities, Vol. 6.

What is the name of the epoch you will die in?

This edition of Cryptocene collectibles is inspired by the battle over what to name the newest layer of Earth's geological strata. A coalition of scientists are currently making the case to adopt the name "Anthropocene", meaning "human recent era", into our geological timeline. How will the name of the future affect the way we live and die in it?

Beginning with the "Anthropocene", artist Loren Kronemyer imagines death in a variety of alternative future epochs. Combining film and text, she depicts dream-like scenarios based on her experiences, interviews, and observations researching our moment of epochal transition.

Filmed in remote locations in Southern Tasmania, China, and Finland, Armoury of the Epoch Wars builds on the antidisciplinary artwork Epoch Wars by Pony Express, creators of Ecosexual Bathhouse.
