Story:
Rotunda of Wentworth - A light painting piece created as part of my ongoing collection - "Glow". Located and standing proudly in the middle of an empty giant field with massive woodlands surrounding it. I first spotted this mysterious domed structure during my ongoing quest of weekend's exploration around my local area.
After I discovered the Rotunda, I knew I have to come back one night to create some light art at this majestic looking structure. A week or so later, I decided to do just that. The forecast for that night was calm and cloudy, so it was the ideal condition for the type of art I create. I spent 2 hours or so of driving as well as hiking to arrive at this location. Like usual, I set off just after sunset, by the time I arrive there, it will be dark enough for me to create. The hike to the location wasn't physically gruelling but directionally, it was challenging as it was pitch dark in the woodlands and my phone had lost the signal during the hike, meaning I couldn't use Google map to pin point where I was going.
After a bit of struggle with directions, I eventually made it to the Rotunda. Once I've found my framing, I proceeded to setting up my cameras, tripod and drone. I wanted to add some human next to the Rotunda to show the scale of the structure and since there was no one else there, I had to photograph as well as model myself. During the shoot, I set the camera on timer mode and had the drone set to semi-auto mode, then I ran 200m or so next to the Rotunda to pose and stood very still for a minute or so for the long exposure to take place. It was quite challenging to shoot by myself but in the end I was glad that it worked out.
Location: The Rotunda, Barnsley
Glow is a collection that are consisted of 16 1/1 light painting with a drone at night over the last 3 years of my photography journey. Another 16 pieces will be added once the collection has sold out.
Throughout my photography journey, light has been one of many theme that has inspired me. Whether it's day or night time photography, both offers different looks and feelings from the same location. Over the years, I have developed a fondness for night photography, we can dictates how a scene would look like and the feelings that it can evoke by either using just natural light source or artificial light source to capture a scene and create a story that the we want to portray.
Created in my signature style, "Glow" focuses on exploring how both natural light source and artificial light source can both co-exists in natural outdoor environments (with or without man-made structure) and combined together to create something that is out of this world and that us, human don't normally see.
