I created "Ensemble" using a custom AI model trained on my existing artworks. This allowed me to integrate AI-generated outputs into my established workflow, resulting in a work that reflects my unique aesthetic while allowing a significant shift in the digital painting process I have developed.

I make paintings that challenge traditional notions of what constitutes painting; and ask how we might think about what form a relevant painting might take in the age of handheld screens and the internet. It has been my intention to disrupt what I see as the obvious cultural redundancies of paint, while replacing them with new possibilities. I am both questioning of and committed to paint as a medium. It feels important in the context of AI and our increasingly digital life to highlight its continued legacy of emotionally manipulative and subjective power.

In machine learning, ‘ensemble' refers to a technique that combines multiple models to improve predictive accuracy. However, "ensemble" can also refer to a group of musicians, dancers, or performers who work together to create a unified performance.

‘Ensemble’ is the first artwork to be minted as an NFT by Matthew Stone that utilises AI image generation as part of its creative process.
