The NFT »Western Flag (NFT)« by John Gerrard, was minted on March 20th 2021 at 7:51 pm and listed for 250 ETH (equivalent of back then 850.000$) on March 20th 2021 at 11:00 pm. It has been taken offline (unsold) on July 29th 2021 at 11:21 am.

Joining the debate about the understanding of an "original" in times of unlimited reproduction of imagery in digital spheres and the creation of artificial scarcity through NFTs, I relate with my project "Western Flag (NFT) 2" to Sherrie Levine' and Elaine Sturtevant's practice of appropriation and reproduction of famous artworks.

I captured John Gerrard's 30-sec video loop "Western Flag (NFT)" and reproduced it with the help of 3D software. I am now selling this reproduction frame by frame as NFTs. Purchasing one of the frames will provide you with the whole "original" video-file of "Western Flag (NFT) 2" as well as the book "Western Flag (NFT) 2".

The whole NFT-collection "Western Flag (NFT) 2" will become a communally owned digital Video.
