Long COVID is a sideways shift into another world. While everyone else was coping with the pandemic unafflicted, long haulers have been in a completely different world with a subtly shifted perspective on life and world events that are only shared with other long haulers. Susan Sontag writes, “everyone who is born holds dual citizenship, in the kingdom of the well and in the kingdom of the sick.” For many, COVID-19 is a passport granting entrance to a parallel COVID country, and there they remain to convalesce with bizarre long haul symptoms that defy conventional medical knowledge. The artist retrieved glimpses of this liminal, transitional, and multi-dimensional space of a strange new unknown illness through visionary, symptomatic, and delirious experiences during long haul convalescence.
