Trendy Badam

Trendy Badam is a collection of 200 peanuts by versatile artist, Nabanita Banerjee. Badam (which means Peanuts) has been popular since 1800. The origin of Peanut plants was in Brazil or Peru in South America and then then the Portuguese and Spanish explorers spread the plant to Africa and Asia. The Africans then introduced peanut to North America and from there on, United States started producing peanuts as a commercial crop. In 1900, George Washington advised the Southern farmers to plant and produce peanuts. Since then peanut has been so popular, that today, the Americans eat around 3.5 kg of peanuts in some or the other form, each year. Hot roasted peanuts have been very popular at the baseball games. Then, soon, street vendors started selling roasted peanuts from carts. People also started having peanuts in other forms such as oil, butter and candy. Peanut butter being highly nutritious and economical has been all time people's favourite especially amongst children. #TrendyBadam
