Tina Blondell - High resolution digitall images of original watercolors

In my series of figurative paintings in watercolors on paper I utilized spiral motifs found in many ancient artifacts. This motif is a symbol of energy and cyclic time. I believe it works well as a metaphor for the evolving consciousness of all beings. The sprirals map experiences that change us through the span of our lives. Many of these paintings explore my views on how women are portrayed in history. I often include symbolism relating to agriculture, fertility, and shamanism drawn from archaeological publications. This work explores how women have been villainized in religion and history, but also reveals how our ancient inheritance survives to the present – albeit just beneath the surface.
