SOURCE [On NFTs] by ROBERT ALICE

Coinciding with the launch of On NFTs (2024), published by TASCHEN and edited by Robert Alice, works from SOURCE [On NFTs] are the artistic expression of the book. It was released on Christie’s 3.0 in March 2024 and commissioned by TASCHEN for the book’s endpapers.

Referencing the importance of blockchains as a new form of publishing, and the idea of NFTs as fundamentally made out of text, the works poetically distill the pre-history of NFTs into large contemporary digital color fields paintings. Each artwork, made entirely out of text, is a collision of two source texts, violently collided together using NLP algorithms to create new histories.

Referencing the idea of digital graffiti, science fictions collide with seminal digital art history manifestos while cryptography white papers collide with philosophical texts in a poetic distillation of the fragility and chaos of history making today.
