Leaping Dancer at Mangueira Samba School, from New Year’s Eve 2001, Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, is the first piece from Jill Waterman's NFT collection entitled “Silvester Stories” minted on the Ethereum Blockchain. This photograph is an award winner as part of the New York Foundation for the Arts (NYFA) NFT Award Program. Silvester Stories is a newly conceived expansion on Waterman’s 38-year, ongoing documentation of New Year celebrations in cities around the world. To provide further context about each image, this collection is offered as photographic NFT’s with narrative text embedded in the image metadata, plus an animated version of the image with Waterman’s story narration set against samba drumming featured as a minute long video. A collector’s kit is unlocked upon purchase, with archival copies of the video for & photograph available from the artist by request. This NFT serves as a proof of concept for the larger collection of works, currently in a preliminary stage of production.
