Self Portrait of My Hair

"Living Creation: Myself", by dermatologist Dr Teo Wan Lin from Singapore, consists of a series of digital art self portraits generated with hand-drawn pixel graphic aesthetic reminiscent of 8-bit and 16-bit computers part of her 90’s childhood. It is a statement against visual conformity in the modern world which she perceives as a negative influence, as an unhealthy form of control.

##Self Portrait of My Hair

The first series of 9 portraits express minute changes in her hair created by the pixels as a philosophical commentary on “real” beauty.

It is a juxtaposition of a human-created material perspective where perfect aesthetic is the ideal, with the imperfection innate in living creations.

As in nature, “perfect imperfection” originates from tiny fractals that repeat to form infinite conformations rendering every creation morphologically similar, yet unique.

Her concept of a hand-drawn vs computer generated pixel art reflects her belief in intelligent design.
