MILLREE HUGHES

Millree Hughes (British b. 1960) Is a digital artist, and video maker. He was born raised in North Wales the son of an Anglican priest. He worked for a time as a scenic artist on music videos and commercials and moved to New York in 1994. He painted murals for the Hard Rock Café in the US and Japan. He started making work on computer in the late 90s having his first one person show at Patrick Callery Gallery in 1999. His work has always been about how the computer changed art, not only physically but also how work was found, viewed and distributed. In recent years it has become more about how the digital environment has changed how we perceive painting culminating in the Facebook project Involuntary Painting which he co-created with the artist Paul Conneally. The show Involuntary Mexico in Hidalgo Subway station is a huge ongoing show of Involuntary Painting, Sculpture and Music posts from around the world curated by Aldo Flores.
