G018 Yatsushiro Sea Area

This is the 18th installment of the "Let's Travel Japan through Paintings" series. This time, the setting is the Yatsushiro Sea area. It is tempting to wonder where the Yatsushiro Sea is, but in reality it is the southern part of Kumamoto. This area is characterized by mostly mountainous terrain, except for a plain in the foreground. The plain in the foreground is called the Yatsushiro Plain, which has now been reclaimed and the land has expanded, but since I am imagining a long time ago, I am conscious of the time before the reclamation. Reclamation is the process of converting seas and waterfronts into land by drying them up, and is different from reclamation. The rest of the land is mostly mountainous, and the coastal areas are also rias. The volcano in the background is Mt Karakuni. The river depicted is the Kuma River. The only road depicted is National Highway No. 3.
