The Flying Motorcycle

Sometimes you just have to build and hold on. The Aerobike was developed to explore the idea that a pilot should be able to stabilize and control a personal aircraft similar to riding a bike. If true, flying could be made intuitive to anyone capable of riding a motorcycle. In engineering the concept is called kinesthetic control. Without a pilot on board at takeoff the craft would quickly roll over on its side - like a bicycle without a rider. Some thought the same would happen even with a pilot. On Dec 12, 2008 the opposite occurred as its first flight proved stable and unlike a bike, did not require forward motion to remain upright – it could hover and be flown hands-off. The result was the world’s first Flying Motorcycle, where the pilot intuitively provides stability for controlled flight without computers or artificial stabilization. This NFT is the only digital model of the bike (1 of 1) representing the final version flown in 2014.
