Bones & Concrete

The project "Bones and Concrete" revolves around the idea of premature ruin, and is embodied in the abandoned landscapes, empty buildings and urban skeletons found all over Spain after the constructive euphoria of the real estate boom. In 2015 Vilabelda traveled with a drone "collecting" buildings that have been condemned before their completion.

Keke Vilabelda's work brings together past and future, shaping new perspectives on the classic theme of ruin. The theme of the ruin is a dialectic between nature and the human being, between the destructive power of the former and the desire for eternity of the latter. The ruins that the viewer encounters here bring to the scene a disturbing and unsettling idea of time: The promises of life are cancelled out by an acceleration of time that turns into ruin something that has barely taken its first steps. The ruins that make up Keke Vilabelda's work are the consequence of a ferocious capitalism based on speculation and rapid enrichment.
