After an unexpected afternoon of melted chocolate chips cookies and laughing through downtown side streets with friends, I drove home, listening to Bleachers with the windows down until I couldn’t feel my fingers and my gas light turned on. Later that night I wrote a piece that began: “This is today, tonight, all blurry and significant.” In the five years since, I have not been able to shake that phrase and how the most vivid feelings are often housed in the nostalgia of the weighty, momentary in-between.
These photos were taken while chasing the last bit of light or chasing the elusive commodity of human connection, while traveling or while existing in those in-between moments. Each image is titled with a word, phrase, or portion of poetry that represents that time in my life. The most important moments when you look back aren’t the crispest ones: they feel blurry and significant. These are some of mine. I hope they make you feel.
