## African Teratology
## Artists: Jesse Freeman & Jessica Freeman  
Inspired by the novels of Nigerian writer Chinua Achebe, “African Teratology” explores the author's “African Trilogy” in 4 (tera) collages. The works are mixed media with Jessica working with graphite and watercolor, and Jesse cutting and gluing the collage elements. It is Achebe's use of the oral tradition of the Igbo people incorporating folklore, proverbs, and other disparate elements to give both form and content to his storytelling that lends itself to the form and expression of the mixed media works here. Identity through it all becomes the overriding theme for this collection for, *“Nobody can teach me who I am. You can describe parts of me, but who I am - and what I need - is something I have to find out myself.” - Chinua Achebe*
