Abstractals are digital animated works with analog-modular synth scores created and composed by multi-dimensional artist Beard Bates. Whereas “Fractals” are never-ending patterns that are infinitely complex and emblematic of dynamic natural systems, “Abstractals” are designed to function in the inverse, as experience of them draws the viewer further from representation and nature, isolating one in a void without allegory or reference. Abstractals are 1.) aesthetic tools for creating momentary freedom of perception and mind for the viewer, an act that can lead to discovery and mental growth; and 2.) animated digital artworks for the offices and living spaces of the future.
