This is a 3D scan of a mixed media sculpture by Patricia Borges. (2020)

The physical series is called I Don't Believe in Witches, But There Are. And the sculptures were made of wax, pitch, spices, human hair, medicine and salt.

In the programmed disappearance of everything, each of these objects will likely soon transform into something else under a new cycle of fusion - or degrade if left alone - as the alchemical processes that transform the physical state of matter and alter the colors of each substance, will continue to happen.

Considering the transient nature of these beings, whose existence is circumscribed by time, I decided to scan them in 3D. (Which makes me question the value of what we choose to keep.)

I think about the beauty that exists in this possibility of being resurrected as something new, carrying the entire history of what has already passed away. At the same time, in this process a record of time is kept and a repository of life is created.

No one owns the physical object as it is about to disappear, but its 3D memory can be maintained and possessed.
