This idea addresses optimizing architectural and engineering labor and technology by creating a global sharing server system as an SST.
The idea is to create a global service that can accept linked Revit models as an upgrade to the simple 3D models shown in most major cities on Google Earth.
As a Revit entrepreneur and architectural corporation in Toronto, Canada, I constantly produce high-level Revit models of existing and proposed buildings for my clients. These models are typically not available to the public for both professional liability and technical reasons.
This is a great loss to my firm, the public, and the design community. A simplified version of this model could be exported and linked to a server that could display the models in place on a global property map, as the real estate MLS maps work. The Revit models represent many hours of measuring and creating, which in the video game industry would be shared with other developers and designers for a royalty fee. This fee would be small in comparison to the cost of creating the model again. Think of your future self in 100 years when trying to model an existing structure that was already carefully created by a long-deceased firm. What would you give for easy access to this treasure trove of a million hours of computer time?
The real estate industry and the local office of land registry are the keepers of land ownership and the land transfer process. Soon this will be liberated and amplified by a global property blockchain, where site data can be systematized on a distributed registry that is regulated by smart contracts on Ethereum-type platforms.
Currently, if you want to see valuable drawings of existing structures, you have to apply to city building records for existing building permits, with the owner's formal permission. This is a security overkill. City building records, if they have kept the data, have not done so in a uniform, regulated manner, and such data is often corrupted by microfilming if more than a decade old.
With the development of AI in Revit architecture and its partner disciplines, global blockchain server access to SST (Single Source of Truth) information, kept indefinitely using computer server storage, can be paid for with the same mechanisms as the local land registry.
This would increase the utility of the Revit software forward with little cost and advertise the services of firms that can contribute to the system.
Today, the Revit models are eventually lost after the project is built, being erased off the network for more space or junked with the old hard drives of retiring firms. Such a waste of human labor, in the past and in the future.
With your help, I'm looking forward to someday soon, walking around a virtual planet created by Revit draftsmen in all disciplines.
