"Look 2" is the second in a series of video works from the collection "A Certain Romance," created by Ribal Hosn and Romance Was Born. Each work aims to uniquely reveal its meaning and interpretation to the individual, a conceptualisation stemming from the idea of "seeing things that aren't really there."
*Collectors who own 1 of each of the 3 offerings on March 11th 2022 (11:00 am AEST) will be sent a unique signed 42cm x 59.4cm photographic print from the series.
"A Certain Romance" from Ribal Hosn X Romance Was Born consists of nine total items across three original works, each a limited edition 1/3. It's a conceptualisation stemming from the thought of seeing things that aren’t really there.
Utilising purely analog techniques without any special effects, each piece features a unique garment and its distorted reflection captured randomly on film.
The process of capturing was extremely organic. Once set up, the performer was instructed to move and interact with the space and her reflection. The reflections were manually distorted by bending the mirror at certain moments and the mixture of colours would change based on the performer's movement and position.
The collection pays tribute to the Rorschach test, traditional filmmaking, and to the malleability of our perception of reality.
