Digital image of the final artwork: Oil and acrylic on canvas.

Included in the Nightclubbing NFT collection: Infems collaboration with Carolina Herrera.

Dynamic, bold and unapologetically decadent, this one off body print performance piece entitled Flesh of the Goddesses, has been produced in Gold and midnight blue, exclusively for Carolina Herrera. The NFT consists of a video of the performance, an image of the work on a 4m x 2m canvas and content exclusively produced for it.

In a continuation of the thinking behind her last performance in 2020- “Revaluing the self”, here, Damoah seeks to evolve from the inward turn required of that performance to an outward, physical, flamboyant, fearless and unapologetic display of passion, light and Radical Joy.

“Covered in shimmering gold paint (symbolic of actual gold - whose value is universally cemented and understood), I will engage in an ultimate expression of self worth by using my body as a living paintbrush to leave gold traces of myself on a midnight blue (Prussian blue) canvas spread out on the floor of a spacious, beautifully lit studio.”

Representative of deity and trandencent divine light in many cultures for millenia, gold is fluid, malleable and untarnishable.Once believed to be the ‘tears of the sun' by the ancient Inca people and ‘flesh of the gods’ by the ancient Egyptians, it has been used widely to represent value, sacred power, authority and prosperity and has dominated global economies for centuries.

This work is evocative of “This is me, the inconsistency of the self” (2017 and 2019), in which Damoah a desire to subvert Yves Klein‘s 1960 “Anthropometries,” performance in which he directed a group of women to cover their nude bodies in his signature Blue paint and then imprint themselves on white paper. Damoah printed her body onto white surfaces, thereby remixing Klein‘s original performance through her own identity and encouraging discussion about female representation, feminism, sexual stereotypes and art history.

In honor of International Women’s Day, the House of Herrera has joined forces with InFems (Intersectional Feminist Art Collective), to create the Nightclubbing NFT collection: Five works of art exploring themes of mythology, self-love, identity, and representation, by five trailblazing female artists.

100% of the proceeds will be donated to the Fundación Ared, a charitable organization that seeks to empower disenfranchised women through access to training and higher education.

Working at the intersection of painting and performance within the context of colonialism, identity, sexuality and spirituality, British-Ghanaian artist Adelaide’s piece is titled, Flesh of the Goddesses. A one-off body print performance that explores themes of identity and self, the NFT consists of a video of the performance, a canvas image of the work and exclusive content.
