The Book of Genesis contains two traditions about the creation of the first people, according to in the older one, God first created Adam, and then from his rib he creates Eve; according to the younger both of them they were created on the sixth day.

Adam and Eve were to live in Eden; God forbade them only to taste the fruit of the tree of the knowledge of good and bad. At the urging of the serpent-tempter, Eve and Adam broke the prohibition. For this sin, God punished them by expelling them from the garden and a curse.

Therefore, as through one man sin entered the world, and death through sin, and so death was passed on to all people, because they had all sinned ... For even before the law, sin was upon world, but sin is not counted without the law. Yet death spread through Adam to Moses, even over those who have not sinned against Adam's example. He is a type of Him that was to come. But it is not the same with crime as it is with the gift of grace. For if a crime it brought death to all of them, how much more was the grace and gift of God upon them all, graciously granted by one Man, Jesus Christ ... So, like the crime of one it has brought condemnation upon all men, so it brings one just act upon all people's justification that gives life.
